Abia State Polytechnic in Aba has announced its plans to collaborate with the government in the fabrication of waste management equipment. The aim is to enhance and streamline refuse disposal processes in the state. The Acting Rector of the polytechnic, Chidinma Ndukwe, made this known during the institution’s 36th Emergency Meeting of Congregation. She urged the staff and students to support the management in realizing this vision.
Ndukwe highlighted that the School of Science and Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, and Environmental Design and Technology at the polytechnic possess well-equipped analytical laboratories capable of certifying and approving the waste management equipment. This ensures that the equipment meets the required standards.
In addition to waste management, the polytechnic’s management intends to revive and expand the previously abandoned bakery and confectionery. This initiative aims to generate employment opportunities and improve the internally generated revenue of the institution.
Ndukwe also revealed that a committee has been established to facilitate the establishment of a business school. This move aims to meet the educational aspirations of residents in the city and its surroundings who seek to enhance their skills and knowledge.
The acting rector appealed to the staff to demonstrate commitment in their duties, while discouraging extortion, corruption, and bitterness. She assured them of improved and regular payment of salaries and enhanced welfare packages under her leadership. These measures are part of the polytechnic’s efforts to support the administration of Governor Alex Otti in achieving its goals in the state.
