A commercial motorcyclist, Saliu Jubril, has been brought before a Kwara Revenue Court in Ilorin for wrongfully accusing someone of private part theft. The accused is facing charges of false information and defamation of character, in violation of section 156 and 392 of the Penal Code Law.
According to the police prosecutor, Innocent Owoola, on July 10, 2023, Jubril was working in the F’ Division, Tipper Garage area of Ilorin when Emmanuel Taiwo requested his services to be taken to Sobi area in the city. However, the motorcyclist refused, claiming that he didn’t know the location. In a bizarre claim, Jubril alleged that during the altercation, Taiwo touched him, causing his manhood to disappear.
As a result of the incident, Taiwo was arrested, while Jubril was taken to the police clinic for examination and treatment. However, medical examination by the doctor at the clinic revealed that there was nothing wrong with Jubril. Further investigation, conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), revealed that the motorcyclist had fabricated the story to mislead the police and defame Taiwo’s character.
During the court proceedings, the accused, Saliu Jubril, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The presiding magistrate, AbdulGaniyu Ajia, granted Jubril bail in the sum of N200,000 and required two sureties. One of the sureties must be either the chairman or secretary of Jubril’s Okada union, and the other must be a family member residing in Ilorin.
