Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe, in collaboration with other operations in the South South zone, have dealt a significant blow to illegal refining activities. A remarkable 57 illegal refineries have been deactivated, ensuring that these illegal operations come to an end. In addition to the shutdowns, troops also made substantial arrests, apprehending 16 suspected economic saboteurs who were involved in these illicit activities.
During the operations carried out between 1-15 June 2023, the troops discovered and destroyed 27 wooden boats, 158 storage tanks, 149 ovens, and eight dugout pits, all of which were integral to the illegal refining processes. The recoveries didn’t stop there. The troops seized 122,600 liters of crude oil, 89,850 liters of AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), 7 vehicles, 18 pumping machines, one outboard engine, one speedboat, six assorted ammunitions, one weapon, and even one tricycle. These significant recoveries serve as a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of our troops.
Major General Musa Danmadami, the Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that the economic saboteurs were denied a staggering sum of N82,445,150.00 during the focused period. This demonstrates the impact of the troops’ actions on the illicit financial gains of these criminals.
All the confiscated items and the arrested suspects have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings. The Defence Headquarters is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that these individuals face the consequences of their actions.
Meanwhile, in the South East, troops involved in Operation Udo Ka have been making significant strides in maintaining peace and security. Two criminals were neutralized, eight suspected criminals were apprehended, and one kidnapped civilian was safely rescued. The troops also turned their attention to illegal mining activities, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals engaged in these unlawful practices. Four excavators, seven tipper trucks, one generating set, six AGO jerrycans, two motorcycles, two vehicles, one locally made pistol, one pump-action rifle, two cartridges, six mobile phones, one digital camera, and even one tricycle were recovered during these operations.
As with the previous operations, all the seized items, apprehended suspects, and rescued civilians have been handed over to the relevant authorities to ensure that appropriate actions are taken.
