The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of the bodies of three medical students who were involved in a boat mishap at the Marina Resort in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River State. The victims included two male students from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Kaduna State, and a female student from the University of Uyo (UniUyo) in Akwa Ibom State.
The boat accident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the popular Marina Resort in Calabar. The victims, who were members of the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NiMSA), were on a boat cruise as part of the activities for the association’s annual event.
The bodies of the two male ABU students, Mustapha Aminu Tukur (TK) and Kabiru Hamza (Sir KB), and the female UniUyo student, Aisha Ogwu Celestina, were recovered following extensive search and rescue efforts.
Cross River State’s Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, confirmed the recovery of the bodies and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. The rescue operations involved collaboration between local villagers, the Marine Police, and other security and rescue agencies.
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has ordered an investigation into the boat mishap. He expressed sadness over the incident and urged all involved agencies to intensify their efforts to find the missing students and reunite them with their families.
