Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has assured the members of the movement seeking the creation of Tiga and Gari states from Kano State that the National Assembly will approach the review of the 1999 Constitution with fairness. Barau conveyed this commitment during a courtesy call by the movement’s leader, Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, at the National Assembly.
Barau, as the head of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, emphasized that the 10th Assembly will ensure equal opportunities for all groups advocating for state creation to present their cases. The special adviser for media and publicity to the deputy Senate president, Ismail Mudashir, issued a statement commending the Tiga and Gari states movement for their sustained efforts over the years.
Senator Doguwa, in his earlier remarks, emphasized the importance of creating two states from Kano State. He pointed out that over the past 40 years, they have been advocating for the division of Kano State due to its size and population, aiming to expedite its development.
“We seek the creation of two new states from the existing Kano State, aiming to drive essential development. Our pursuit of this goal over the last four decades has not been about confrontation, but rather to foster development,” Senator Doguwa explained.
He further urged the deputy Senate president to lend his support to the project, while also appreciating him for his contributions to various projects across Kano State’s three senatorial districts.
