Southern and Middlebelt leaders have expressed deep concern over the recent surge in killings across Nigeria, warning that the failure of security agencies to take decisive action against the perpetrators is pushing the nation towards a state of war. Following a meeting, the leaders issued a communique highlighting their dismay at the killings and their disappointment with the security agencies’ lack of intervention.
The leaders further condemned the unrestricted movement of non-state actors who openly carry dangerous weapons, wreaking havoc and causing chaos throughout the country. They emphasized the urgent need for security agencies to address this alarming situation and restore peace and stability.
 In addition to the security crisis, the leaders criticized the federal government’s decision to request an $800 million World Bank loan, considering the country’s already mounting debt. They called on the government to reconsider this request, taking into account the deteriorating state of the economy and the burden it places on ordinary Nigerians.
 The leaders also expressed their concern about the ongoing judicial processes, particularly at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal and various election tribunals nationwide. They urged the judiciary to uphold the rule of law, respect the constitution, and ensure that the rights of all parties involved are protected and upheld according to Nigerian law.
 Recognizing the determination and resilience of Nigerian youths in shaping the country’s future, the leaders commended their active participation in the 2023 General Elections. They encouraged the youth not to be discouraged by any setbacks but rather to stay committed to their vision of building a better Nigeria, emphasizing that the struggle for change has only just begun.
 The Southern and Middlebelt leaders congratulated Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on his appointment as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. They also took a moment to honor Chief Edwin Clark, their National Leader, on the occasion of his 96th birthday.
 During the meeting, the attendees observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Amb. Prof. George Obiozor, the late leader of the Middle Belt, Commodore Dan Suleiman, and the late Senator Inatimi Rufus-Spiff, former Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of PANDEF.
