The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, hosted the D’Tigress of Nigeria on Monday at the State House, Abuja, in a reception to honor their outstanding performance on the basketball court. Tinubu praised the team, highlighting their hard work, discipline, and commitment to excellence. She emphasized that their efforts would inspire countless individuals, especially women, to pursue their dreams.

In her address, Tinubu mentioned, “Your victory transcends sports, symbolizing the potential that can be realized when a diverse group of individuals come together with a common goal.” She expressed immense pride in their achievements, noting the positive image they have projected for Nigeria. Tinubu further emphasized that Nigerian women are capable of reaching the highest level in any endeavor they choose to undertake.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, also spoke at the reception, expressing gratitude to the First Lady for hosting the team. He assured that preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games were already underway, with victory in mind.

During the event, the team’s captain presented the coveted FIBA Women’s Afrobasket trophy to the First Lady, who was joined by the wives of the Vice President and the President of the Senate.
