In a statement released in Abuja, political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has raised concerns about the need to invite the Managing Directors of Access Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) for questioning in relation to the ongoing probe and arrest of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. Frank emphasized that the investigation of the bank chiefs was crucial due to allegations of their involvement in subversion and misappropriation of public funds, which were intended for the welfare of the Nigerian people.
Frank appealed to the government of the United Kingdom (UK) to cooperate with Nigerian security agencies by promptly inviting the duo for questioning. He stated that invitations for the probe had already been sent to the two managing directors, revealing that plans were underway to undermine the invitation and seek refuge in the UK.
The political activist highlighted the unwillingness of the GTB Managing Director to return to Nigeria for cross-examination by the Department of State Service (DSS). Frank also alleged that four other Managing Directors of tier one banks were implicated as accomplices and conduits for Emefiele, with the Access Bank and GTB MDs playing significant roles in defrauding the nation.
Frank called on the UK government to assist Nigeria by not allowing extended stays for these individuals who are currently in the UK for personal purposes. He emphasized the importance of the UK government in preventing the country from becoming a safe haven for corrupt officials, both in the public and private sectors.
As stakeholders in the fight against corruption, Frank expressed determination to assist the Nigerian government in eradicating all forms of corruption in society. He urged the State Security Service (DSS) to thoroughly investigate and hold accountable those who undermine the welfare of the nation for personal gain.
In addition, Frank drew attention to the alleged acquisition of two private jets by the GTB Managing Director, with a value of over $80 million, which had not been officially recorded in their books. He called for a thorough examination of this fraudulent acquisition to establish its authenticity.
Frank concluded by urging the Department of State Service to take the information seriously and take appropriate action to compel these individuals to answer for their fraudulent roles in accordance with the law. He indicated that further key information was available if the DSS requested it.
