Former Minister of Immigration, Citizenship, and Secretary of State of Canada, Hon Gerry Weiner, is gearing up to take the stage as the headline speaker at the much-anticipated 4th Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM) Global Migration summit. With a blend of virtual and physical participation, the hybrid summit will be held in Toronto, Canada, from October 2-14, attracting an array of participants ranging from media professionals to business leaders, migrants, immigration and judicial workers, government officials, and other experts.
Expressing his support for the summit, Weiner, the current executive director of Global Relations, Partnerships, and Customer Satisfaction at APS Canada Startup Visas, enthusiastically stated, “I have been a participant at some of JIFORM events in recent times, and this would not be an exception. I look forward to welcoming participants to this remarkable event.”
The JIFORM annual conference serves as a platform for capacity building and networking, uniting journalists and various stakeholders to delve into migration dynamics and pertinent issues. Dr. Ajibola Abayomi, the president of JIFORM, confirmed in a statement released in Abuja that invitations had been extended to esteemed organizations and individuals such as the African Union Labour Migration Advisory Committee, Dr. Princess Kabuki Asie Ocansey, the United Nations Non-Governmental Organization, First Fridays Toronto, and the Canada-Africa Chamber of Business. Additionally, Professor Byron Price from the Medgars Evers College, City University, New York, Ms. Philomena Gnanapragasam, the Director of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), and Ms. Phelisa Nkomo from South Africa have also received invitations to the summit.
JIFORM, a non-profit organization comprising over 300 journalists and volunteers across continents, focuses on comprehensive coverage of migration matters. Since its establishment in 2019, the organization has successfully organized numerous local and international capacity-building programs for journalists and stakeholders. Noteworthy events include the annual African Migration Summit in Ghana held in partnership with the Nekotech Center of Excellence, the West African Media Migration Summit in Lome, Togo, and the highly acclaimed 3rd Global Migration Summit in Toronto, Canada, which took place in October 2022. In collaboration with the City University of New York, JIFORM hosted an intercontinental migration summit in Brooklyn from November 2-4, 2022, further solidifying its commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding on migration-related issues.
