In November 2020, Hillsong Church made a bold move and terminated the employment of their New York City branch’s lead pastor, Carl Lentz. The decision came as a result of Lentz’s infidelity, which was later uncovered in a docuseries titled “Hillsong: Let Hope Rise.”
Lentz and his wife, Laura, were featured in the series, where he admitted to his wrongdoing and expressed his remorse. Lentz acknowledged that he had been unfaithful to his wife and had used his position of power as a pastor to his advantage.
The docuseries also exposed the fact that Hillsong had been aware of Lentz’s behavior before his dismissal but had opted to remain silent. To address this, the church has announced an independent investigation into the matter.
Despite his fall from grace, Lentz is committed to making things right. He is actively working on repairing his reputation and rebuilding his career, all while focusing on his family and his faith.
