In a bid to crackdown on cybercrime, the Nigerian Police Force – National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) has teamed up with the Hungarian Police and arrested a 21-year-old suspect, George Gift Ikata. The suspect, a Rivers State indigene, was found to have created a fraudulent platform known as “AMC Stock Experts,” aimed at scamming unsuspecting foreigners, including Hungarians, of their hard-earned cash.
The collaboration between the two law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of Ikata, who willingly admitted to his crime. The NPF-NCCC, under the supervision of DCP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, deployed experienced cybercrime forensic and intelligence assets, resulting in the arrest of the suspect. The arrest is a significant achievement in the fight against cybercrime in Nigeria.
The Inspector-General of Police has urged internet users and the entire cyber community to be cautious of dubious investment platforms and schemes. In the event of a fraud, they should quickly take advantage of the e-reporting portal of the Police (https://incb.npf.gov.ng) to register their complaints for immediate action.
The arrest of George Gift Ikata sends a strong message to cybercriminals in Nigeria that the Police Force is committed to combating cybercrime in the country. It is noteworthy that partnerships with other countries, such as Hungary, are essential in the fight against cybercrime, as cybercriminals can operate from anywhere in the world.
