Kenya’s main opposition political party has made a startling announcement, stating that unknown men in plain clothes, suspected to be police officers, abducted the bodyguard of ODM/Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader, Hon. Raila Odinga. The incident occurred while the bodyguard, Mr. Maurice Ogeta, was driving from his home to work.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Communications of ODM, Philip Etale, armed men flagged down Mr. Ogeta’s vehicle, and after accosting him, they forcibly placed him in the car’s boot. The abductors then drove for a short distance before the vehicle stalled. They forced Mr. Ogeta out of the boot to restart the car and later returned him to the boot before speeding off to an undisclosed location.
This abduction follows the recent unprovoked arrest of Hon. Babu Owino of Embakasi East, which took place on Tuesday night. Hon. Babu Owino and other Members of Parliament from Nairobi County were attending a meeting with officials from KERRA in Mombasa before his arrest upon arrival in Nairobi.
The opposition party’s statement raises concerns about the safety and security of its members, particularly in light of the abduction of the bodyguard and the arrest of Hon. Babu Owino.
