The Lagos State Taskforce has carried out a follow-up exercise and mop-up operation at the Lekki Coastal Road, vowing to make demolition of illegal structures in the area a continuous exercise. The operation, which was led by the agency’s Chairman, Shola Jejeloye, aimed to create a safe and habitable environment for residents by removing shanties and criminal hideouts.
The six-hour operation, carried out in the wee hours of Sunday, led to the arrest of 38 suspects who thought they could get away with flouting the law. The makeshift shanties by the roadside were also demolished to ensure free vehicular movement along the route.
Jejeloye warned all squatters and unscrupulous elements who tried to call the agency’s activities bluff to have a rethink or risk being prosecuted. He appealed to road side traders in the area to move their wares to the designated market complex rather than defacing the streets and roads.
The chairman reiterated that the clearing of the area would be sustained for as long as it takes to achieve the objective of creating a safe and habitable society for residents and Lagosians as a whole. The Lagos State Taskforce’s determination to rid the state of illegal structures and criminal hideouts is a commendable effort towards ensuring a better and safer living environment for everyone.
