Yesterday, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, declared that the Monday sit-at-home in the Southeast is “dead and buried.” Kanu urged the people of the region to welcome the cancellation of the sit-at-home order. He charged residents to reject those exploiting his name to deceive people.
The sit-at-home initiative, initially initiated by IPOB to advocate for Kanu’s release, was unfortunately hijacked by criminal elements who used it to cause havoc. To address this issue, Kanu decided to cancel the initiative and replace it with Economic Empowerment Day (EED).
In a statement made by his lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, it was advised that the people of the Southeast critically assess the damages arising from the sit-at-home and embrace Kanu’s pronouncement to discontinue it. Ejiofor warned against being manipulated by fraudulent elements who exploit the love for Biafra and Kanu.
The statement highlighted various instances where misleading claims were made, such as warships at river banks and Biafra’s arrival within 150 days. It also pointed out fictitious donors for a phantom two-week sit-at-home palliative, urging people to question where such a sit-at-home was actually observed.
Ejiofor emphasized that Biafrans are wise and should no longer be victims of violent manipulation. The cancellation of the sit-at-home seeks to find a lasting solution to the havoc caused by criminal elements who abused the initiative.
