Martin Scorsese’s upcoming historical drama “Killers of the Flower Moon” debuted its trailer at CinemaCon on Thursday, where the legendary director was also honored with the inaugural “Legend of Cinema” award. The convention for theater owners was treated to a glimpse of the mystery and tragedy of the real-life story set in the 1920s, which revolves around the murders of Osage people in Oklahoma after the tribe became wealthy due to the discovery of oil on their land.
The movie, which will be released in theaters on October 6 before streaming on Apple TV+, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest Burkhart, who marries a member of the Osage Nation, played by Lily Gladstone. Robert De Niro stars as a local power player, while Jesse Plemons plays a former Texas Ranger sent to investigate the murders.
At a luncheon in Scorsese’s honor later that day, DiCaprio made a surprise appearance to chat with his frequent collaborator. The two icons discussed various topics, including Scorsese’s influences and how he first fell in love with movies as a sickly kid with whooping cough. They also talked about the significance of “Killers” and the importance of telling this story, which sheds light on a dark chapter in American history.
The trailer promises an epic, sweeping drama with stunning visuals and a talented cast. Scorsese’s masterful direction, combined with the star power of DiCaprio and De Niro, is sure to make “Killers of the Flower Moon” one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.
