The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has refuted a social media video alleging the presence of plastic materials in Golden Penny Semovita. Prof. Moji Adeyeye, the director-general of NAFDAC, clarified that a similar video surfaced in 2020, prompting the agency to conduct thorough investigations using internationally accredited laboratories.
The results of the analytical testing carried out by NAFDAC’s laboratories confirmed that Golden Penny Semovita does not contain any plastic or harmful contaminants. The product was found to contain the expected components and the required Vitamin A. Prof. Adeyeye emphasized that the claims made in the social media video are misleading.
Golden Penny Semovita is a popular brand of semolina, a wheat-based flour consumed worldwide. It is manufactured by Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc., a registered company authorized by NAFDAC to produce and sell the product in Nigeria. The company’s operations have been certified by NAFDAC, meeting the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS).
Prof. Adeyeye urged the public to exercise caution when using social media to address concerns about regulated products.
