Nigerian students evacuated from Sudan are still stranded at the Egyptian border, as local authorities demand that normal visa protocols must be followed. The Nigerian government had arranged for buses to transport its stranded citizens in Sudan to neighboring Egypt where it would be safe to airlift them to Nigeria. However, the Egyptian border remains closed, leaving the students stranded.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCom) stated that the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) aircraft, NAF C 130, had landed at Aswan International Airport in Egypt, but the students could not cross the border. NiDCOM emphasized that they will not leave without their students.
President Muhammadu Buhari and the transitional president of Chad, Gen. Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, have called on neighboring countries and the international community to intervene and persuade the warring sides in Sudan to stop fighting and negotiate.
