National Population Commission’s (NPC) server has remained untouched by hackers, despite numerous attempts to breach it, according to the Federal commissioner of NPC in Kogi State, Prof Habibat Jimoh Isah. Speaking at a press conference held in Lokoja, Isah confirmed that the server, which will be used for the 2023 population and housing census, is one of the most crucial aspects of the project and the agency has made continuous efforts to secure it.
Isah stated that in the past, censuses have been conducted using paper and pen, but this time, the census will be conducted using Android devices, which will ensure that information is collected and sent directly to the server. He emphasized the importance of protecting the server from being hacked, and the agency’s commitment to ensuring its success.
The commissioner also revealed that the NPC has conducted several training sessions for different stakeholders, including federal commissioners, state directors, and other officials of the commission, to ensure they are equipped to handle any situation that may arise. The recent training for federal commissioners was held in Port Harcourt, and the state directors and other officials of the commission are undergoing continuous training.
Isah stressed the need for the census to be taken seriously, as it is a tool for national development. “No serious government is supposed to take the census as a joke. Any serious-minded government should take the population and housing census as an issue of key interest,” he said.
The leadership of the commission will be meeting with the federal government at the Federal Executive Council meeting to brief the executive arm of the government about the level of preparedness.
