The Nigeria Police Force has announced its intention to review the deployment of Mobile Police Force (MPF) operatives tasked with protecting private citizens.The Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the actions of seven policemen seen in a viral video, who were providing security to a man during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration while he appeared to prepare to slaughter a cow.
Adejobi described the incident as “disgusting” and assured the public that the individuals involved would be identified and held accountable. Furthermore, he revealed that a committee had been established to investigate and recommend the withdrawal of MPF and tactical personnel from similar services, emphasizing the need to prioritize the recently announced Quick Intervention Squad.
The deployment of police officers to protect individual citizens will undergo thorough review and regulation. The committee’s findings will be promptly submitted, and the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) will swiftly implement the proposed policy changes. The aim is to shift focus towards increasing the number of police officers dedicated to general law enforcement duties rather than providing personal security for specific individuals.
