The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, an apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has called on residents of the South-East region to disregard Simon Ekpa’s declaration of a one-week sit-at-home. Ekpa, a Biafra agitator based in Finland, has been leading regular Monday sit-at-home protests in the South-East, despite the suspension of the exercise by the mainstream leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Various groups, individuals, and state governments have criticized the sit-at-home order, highlighting its negative economic consequences for the region. Nevertheless, Ekpa has once again instructed the people of the South-East to stay at home for a week. In response, the National President of Ohanaeze Youths, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, issued a statement urging South-East residents to ignore Ekpa’s directive.
Okwu described Ekpa’s order as dictatorial and emphasized that there is no justification for someone sitting comfortably in Finland and issuing orders that deprive others of their livelihood for a week. He asserted that Ekpa is using the name of Biafra to enrich himself and is not genuinely fighting for the cause or the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Okwu further emphasized that even Kanu himself has condemned the sit-at-home order, stating that it is not in the best interest of the people of the South-East.
Therefore, Okwu urged Ndigbo to dismiss Ekpa’s instructions and resume their normal daily activities, emphasizing that the sit-at-home order should not be taken seriously. He highlighted the senselessness of asking breadwinners to stay at home and watch their families suffer while the person issuing the order is enjoying himself in Finland. Okwu concluded by stating that Ekpa’s actions are driven by personal motives and should be disregarded, as they go against the directive of IPOB’s leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
