Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has expressed his skepticism about Senator Dino Melaye’s governorship ambition in Kogi State. During a media chat with selected journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Governor Wike said that Senator Melaye doesn’t have what it takes to contest and win the governorship election in Kogi State. He also accused the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of trying to manipulate the process in favor of Melaye.
According to Governor Wike, being from a place doesn’t necessarily equate to electoral success if such a person contests an election. He further stated that Senator Melaye, a two-time member of the National Assembly, doesn’t have what it takes to be a governor. Wike emphasized that if the PDP gives the ticket to the former Kogi West lawmaker, the party is doomed to lose the election.
The governor questioned why the PDP would give its governorship ticket to Senator Melaye, stating that it would be a risky move that could lead to the party’s failure at the polls. Wike also stated that he would not campaign for the PDP if the party gives its governorship ticket to Senator Melaye.
In response to Wike’s statements, Senator Melaye accused the Rivers State governor of suffering from a psychotic disorder. Melaye claimed that Governor Wike has nothing against him, except for the fact that he didn’t support the governor’s selfish tendencies in the PDP.
Senator Melaye also stated that he had contested for the Kogi governorship race before, and Governor Wike had supported him with a private jet because he was qualified at the time. However, Melaye expressed his disappointment that Governor Wike couldn’t understand why he should be the next Governor of Kogi State in 2024.
Governor Wike has expressed his doubts about Senator Dino Melaye’s governorship ambition in Kogi State. He believes that the former lawmaker doesn’t have what it takes to win the governorship election in Kogi State. Senator Melaye, on the other hand, accused Governor Wike of suffering from a psychotic disorder and stated that he was qualified to be the next Governor of Kogi State. The PDP leadership must carefully consider the consequences of their decisions, especially when it comes to selecting candidates for elections
