Authorities of the Akwa Ibom State Police command have officially confirmed the elimination of a notorious armed robber and serial killer, Wisdom Akpan. The operation took place in the Ikot Akpanabia area of the state. The deceased criminal was responsible for the deaths of 13 individuals over the past several months, according to police reports.
Wisdom Akpan had been on the police’s wanted list and was being tracked by security intelligence for his involvement in numerous violent incidents. He was a remnant of a feared armed robbery gang led by the late Malachi Uwem Friday.
Akpan had engaged in a series of crimes, including murder, shootings, and robberies, across various locations in the state. He was known for targeting innocent Akwa Ibom residents, particularly in areas like Ikot Ambang, Ikot Efun, Ikot Inuan, Itak, Ikot Osukpong, and Okobo Ibiono.
The police’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team successfully neutralized Wisdom Akpan during an operation. He attempted to resist arrest by firing at police officers.
Exhibits recovered from the scene include a locally reconstructed pump-action gun resembling an AK-47, cartridges, a Q-link motorcycle, assorted charms, and a face mask.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Olatoye Durosinmi, praised the efforts of the officers involved in the operation. He urged criminal elements to leave the state or face the consequences, while also expressing gratitude to citizens who provided crucial information to the police.
The elimination of Wisdom Akpan marks a significant victory for law enforcement and contributes to the overall safety and security of Akwa Ibom State.
