President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a civic reception organized by the Lagos State Government, revealed his decision to unify the official and parallel market rates of foreign exchange in order to prevent further financial hemorrhage in Nigeria. By choosing to forgo personal gains from multiple forex systems, President Tinubu prioritized the nation’s best interest, much like he did with fuel subsidy removal. In the early days of his administration, he took decisive actions to address the bleeding finances and emphasized the need for effective resource management by political officeholders.
President Tinubu called for the support of the attending governors, urging them to work together in ensuring the even development of the country. He emphasized his commitment to an open-door policy and his vision to transform Nigeria into a resilient economy. Expressing his gratitude to the Lagos State Government and attendees, President Tinubu apologized to friends unable to meet him due to his demanding office responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of fulfilling his duties, stating that the assignment was greater than personal comfort.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State expressed joy and gratitude to God for making President Tinubu the leader of Nigeria, describing him as a competent manager capable of turning around the country’s economic fortunes. Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), pledged the cooperation of state chief executives, regardless of party affiliations, to work with the President in improving the country’s well-being and safety.
Senator Godswill Akpabio, speaking on behalf of the National Assembly, commended President Tinubu for his leadership during the establishment of the 10th National Assembly. The Senator assured the President of the legislative body’s full support in ensuring his success. Additionally, former Governor of Lagos, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, stressed the importance of good governance across all 36 states, urging governors and Nigerians to actively participate in remaking Nigeria.
Looking back at Lagos’ role in Nigeria’s political evolution, Pa Tajudeen Olusi, leader of the Lagos Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s emergence and highlighted the state’s historical contributions. Olusi commended the President’s notable first 30 days in office, stating that Nigerians had already recognized his remarkable achievements.
