Prime Video has exciting news for comedy lovers as it announces the launch of its first unscripted African Original, LOL: Last One Laughing Naija, on July 14. This unique and unpredictable six-part series, hosted by Nigeria’s king of comedy, Basketmouth, is an adaptation of Prime Video’s renowned global comedy franchise that spans over 20 countries and territories worldwide. Hosted by Trevor Noah, the global edition is set to launch early next year.

LOL: Last One Laughing Naija features a stellar cast including Okey Bakassi, Acapella, Mr Funny aka Sabinus, KieKie, Buchi, Dat Warri Girl, Taaooma, Senator, IGoSave, and Gandoki. The series will see these talented Nigerian comedy and entertainment stars go head-to-head in a celebrity showdown where anything can happen.

Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, head of Nigerian Originals at Prime Video, expressed excitement about bringing this series filled with incredible Nigerian humor and comedic talent to audiences. She stated, “Our audiences are going to love seeing a series full of incredible Nigerian humor and comedic talent with this A-List lineup of comedians, who will test each other’s limits in the pursuit of laughter in LOL: Last One Laughing Naija.”

Ned Mitchell, head of African and Middle East Originals at Prime Video, added, “LOL: Last One Laughing Naija is a global hit for Prime Video, and that’s why we’re excited to bring its very own version to customers in Nigeria.” He further emphasized the importance of showcasing authentic Nigerian stories and genres to both local and international audiences, demonstrating their commitment to the local TV and film industry.

In the series, the group of comedians will compete to be the Last One Laughing. With only one rule—no laughing allowed—each comedian will try to make their fellow contestants laugh while resisting the urge to laugh themselves. The comedian who manages to keep a straight face until the end will be declared the winner and will have the opportunity to donate 40M NGN to a local charity of their choice.

Produced by Amazon Studios in collaboration with Nigeria’s LiveSpot360 Productions, LOL: Last One Laughing Naija will be available on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide. The series will launch with two episodes streaming back-to-back each week, spanning a three-week period from July 14 to July 28. Additionally, the series will be available in Dolby Atmos for an enhanced viewing and audio experience for customers with compatible setups.
