The Police Service Commission (PSC) has demonstrated its firm stance against misconduct by approving the dismissal of three assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) and the reduction in rank of six other officers, including an assistant commissioner of police, chief superintendent, two superintendents, and one assistant superintendent. These punitive measures were meted out for various offences such as insubordination and indiscipline. The commission also reprimanded several officers who were found to be in breach of the code of conduct.
The 20th plenary meeting of the commission, held at the corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, was presided over by the commission’s chairman and former inspector-general of police, Dr Solomon Arase. The spokesperson of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, announced that the meeting also witnessed the promotion of 109 senior staff.
In his address, Dr Arase congratulated the newly promoted staff and reminded them of their responsibility to conduct government business with the highest level of integrity. He emphasized the need for more dedication and hard work from them, assuring them that the promotion of staff would be a priority during his tenure.
The chairman also called on the police to work within the established laws guiding their operations, and he promised that disciplinary matters would be addressed promptly so that deserving officers would be appropriately punished, while those cleared of any wrongdoing could continue with their career progression without any impediments.
