In a surprising turn of events, troops from the 4 Special Forces Command of the Nigerian Army in Doma, Nasarawa State, were offered a staggering N5 million bribe by suspected railway track vandals. However, the army personnel courageously turned down the bribe, putting integrity above personal gain.
Major Joseph Adekunke Afolasade, the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations of the 4 Special Forces Command, made this revelation during the handover of the 12 apprehended suspects to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Doma, Nasarawa State. The suspects were captured during two separate operations conducted by the army in the state.
During a routine patrol, the troops apprehended five suspects at an abandoned railway station situated between Keana and Obi local government areas. These individuals were caught in the act of loading the vandalized rail tracks into two trucks. The swift action of the vigilant officers and men of the command prevented further damage to the rail infrastructure.
In another operation, seven additional suspects were arrested during a raid on the residence of a suspected kingpin in Lafia, the state capital. Shockingly, after making confessions that implicated influential personalities in Nasarawa and Plateau states, the suspects attempted to bribe the army personnel with a hefty sum of N5 million in exchange for their freedom.
However, the integrity of the soldiers prevailed as they firmly rejected the bribe. They remained resolute in their duty to uphold the law and ensure justice is served. The suspects, claiming to have been deceived by their sponsors who are currently on the run, now face further investigation and prosecution by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
Major General Owyinka Soyele, the Commander of the Special Forces, approved the handover of the suspects to the NSCDC, signifying the commitment to uncovering the full extent of this criminal syndicate and bringing all those involved to justice.
