In a significant breakthrough, the Akwa Ibom State Police operatives have apprehended a suspected ritualist named Edu Udeme Ime, who was found in possession of a human skull. This arrest is part of a larger operation where a total of 269 criminals were nabbed across various locations in the state.
During the second quarter press briefing held at the state Command headquarters in Ikot Akpanabia, near Uyo, the capital city, Commissioner of Police (CP) Olatoye Durosinmi announced the successful raids conducted in crime-prone areas, which led to these arrests.
Acting on valuable intelligence, CP Durosinmi revealed that the Quick Response Squad (QRS) diligently tracked down the suspected ritualist at Urua Ekpa Junction. Upon searching his bag, they discovered a concealed human skull. The suspect failed to provide a reasonable explanation for his possession of such an item.
The Commissioner of Police further stated that, during the period under review, a total of 269 suspects were apprehended for a wide range of offenses. These included murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, rape, and stealing, among others.
One notable arrest involved Aniekan James, who was taken into custody for the murder of his 35-year-old son, Odudu Aniekan, following an argument. The CP described the suspect as a habitual murderer, having previously committed similar crimes in Lagos and Aba, Abia State.
Additionally, several other individuals found themselves in police custody, including two airport vandals, five suspected cultists, and three kidnapping suspects. CP Durosinmi assured the public that all the arrested individuals would face legal charges once the investigations are concluded.
