Maimunatu Sulaiman, a resident of Kofar-Dumi Bauchi metropolis, is currently undergoing interrogation for allegedly stabbing her husband, Aliyu Muhammad, to death during an altercation over a second wife, as reported by our correspondents yesterday. This tragic incident has shaken the community and raised concerns about domestic violence.

 

According to sources, the man suffered fatal injuries to his chest after the stabbing, while the wife sustained minor bruises. The Bauchi State Police Command’s Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Aminu Gimbal Ahmed, confirmed that the woman is currently being questioned in relation to the incident. She has already confessed to the offense, and the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further action.

 

The police spokesperson stated, “Investigation continues, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.” The arrest took place on July 5th, 2023, around 11:40 PM when detectives from the Township Divisional Police headquarters in Bauchi apprehended Maimunatu Sulaiman, a 21-year-old woman residing in the Kofar Dumi area of Bauchi State, for alleged culpable homicide.

 

As soon as they received the information, the detectives, led by the divisional police officer, promptly arrived at the crime scene and rushed both the victim and the suspect to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for medical attention. Sadly, medical reports confirmed the victim’s demise due to the chest injury, while the suspect only suffered minor bruises on her stomach.

 

Preliminary investigation findings suggest that the suspect, Maimunatu Suleiman, stabbed her husband, Aliyu Muhammad, during an altercation that occurred on July 5th, 2023, at approximately 6:00 PM in their matrimonial home. The motive behind the dispute is believed to be the husband’s decision to take a second wife, although these reports are yet to be officially confirmed.
