Nairobi, Kenya – Motorists traveling along Mombasa Road have been advised to exercise caution when approaching the Mlolongo area, as protesting youths have barricaded the road, setting bonfires on both sides of the road. These protests come in response to opposition leader Raila Odinga’s call for demonstrations against the high cost of living and the anticipated implementation of the new Finance Bill by President William Ruto’s administration. However, the Kenyan High Court has temporarily halted the bill, which, once implemented, would lead to increased taxes and a rise in food prices.
The protests, which took place on Wednesday, were deemed “unlawful” by authorities.
